For Microsoft Word Users

Gateway offers its authors assistance in setting up a book in Microsoft Word. While this software is not an industry standard for printing we are able to convert your Word files to high quality PDF files that can be used successfully for printing.

There are some important guidelines to setting up electronic book files and we have developed a brochure called "The Roadmap" that can help you with many layout issues, such as headers and footers, page numbering, text boxes for captions, inserting images into your text, indexing, etc. This brochure also contains valuable information on scanning images, setting up your files, text areas, fonts, naming your files and more.

For Design Professionals

Sending native files for text pages:
Submit Pagemaker, InDesign or Quark files along with links, fonts, etc. (Halftone images at 300dpi - Line Art at 1200 dpi)

Naming files: Author's last name and page range should be part of the name.

Sending PDF files for text pages:
Please contact us to request distiller options. Please check " print blank pages" when creating your poscript file. Line screen: 133 line.

Sending cover files:
Please call ahead for layout specs & spine widths. Illustrator, InDesign or Pagemaker files are preferred for finished files, or you can provide high res tifs or eps files that we will place in a final layout.

Word Templates Available

Many of our authors are working in Microsoft Word. If you are publishing a book with Gateway Press we can send you a file that can be used as a template for your book. It also contains some helpful information about page layout in Word.
